College Credit-Bearing Certificate Program in Nonprofit Management
The NonProfit HelpDesk has designed and championed a new college credit-bearing certificate program in nonprofit financial management, now being offered at Brooklyn College of CUNY. The program, the first of its kind in New York City, was developed with grant support from the Brooklyn Community Foundation. In working with nonprofits for over a decade the NPHD has found that organizations that have staff with college-level education in fiscal and operational management are more effective, efficient and accountable. We developed this Certificate Program so that more organizations can have staff with this kind of education. When staff members at nonprofit organizations enroll in this program, they will be able to implement what they learn immediately on the job. The program combines accounting and related courses taught under the aegis of the Brooklyn College Department of Economics with new courses designed by the NonProfit HelpDesk, for a total of 24 credits. This certificate program has been approved by the New York State Board of Regents. Courses are open to both those matriculating (enrolled as full-time students for a Bachelor’s degree) at Brooklyn College and those who wish to complete the Certificate only. Requirements/Application To get an application form for the Certificate in Non-Profit Management, and the details on how to submit the application, please contact Lillian O’Reilly, Assistant Dean, Brooklyn College (718-951-5185 or LOReilly@brooklyn.cuny.edu). All students applying to Brooklyn College must take the Skills Assessment Tests, to determine whether they will require any remedial support. Tuition will be based on the College’s rate for part-time students, which is $250 per credit. Most courses are three credits each. The NPHD hopes to be able to offer some scholarships for this program in the future. The Certificate Program also provides a route to a four-year college degree. Students who have completed the Certificate Program have enough credits to be able to apply for full matriculation status as transfer students. This eliminates the requirements for SAT testing and puts the emphasis on college performance rather than high school grades. For more information on the program, please call the NPHD at 718-449-5000, ext. 2267. |
