Course HR1: Team Building | March 3, 2010

Intended for: HR and executive staff
“Your people are your most important asset”, is a truism but identifying what your organization needs, finding good candidates and evaluating their “hard” and “soft” qualifications is both an art and a science. In this course we examine both aspects of the team building process:

  1. Traditional and online resources for recruitment
  2. Evaluating a resume and checking references
  3. Personal interview do’s and don’ts; reading body language and non-verbal cues
  4. Participation of other staff members in the candidate qualification process – enjoying the benefits while avoiding the pitfalls
  5. Legal background check requirements for certain positions
  6. Integrating new inductees into your team
  7. The HR manual: some suggestions

Course HR2: Developing and Retaining Employees |May 10, 2010

Intended for: HR and executive staff

It is critical to decide what “tone” is appropriate and desired for your work environment and instill that tone in your staff, both current and newly recruited. Employees need to understand both the written and unwritten rules of your work environment. An employee that hits the ground running in this respect is more likely to develop and advance, but the process must also be nurtured. We cover and other day to day issues of HR management, with the goal of creating as pleasant and productive a work environment as possible.

  1. Maintaining a positive and supportive work environment
  2. “Game avoidance”: forestalling and dealing with counterproductive work behavior
  3. Encouraging employee development and growth
  4. Employee evaluations – staying fair and objective
  5. The promotion process
  6. Handling employee layoffs and terminations-with-cause
  7. Dealing with abusive and other illegal work behavior
