Course TD1: Dealing with IT Security Issues | March 1, 2010
Intended for: ED, admin and IT staff
Don’t let the hype about computer security tempt you to ignore the issue. Inattention to computer security – or dealing with the issue in the wrong way – can expose your organization to serious legal liability, put you at risk of permanent data loss, expose you to theft of your organizational identity and your assets and allow sensitive personal information about you, your employees or your clients to become public knowledge. It can expose you to civil and even criminal action or put you out of business. This course teaches you how to properly go about controlling or mitigating those risks:
- Basics of computer security. What is a firewall, anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-phishing? What is backup? How to make intelligent decisions about implementing these services?
- What are the privacy issues and risks associated with a nonprofit’s network environment and what does a nonprofit administrator have to know and do, to protect the organization?
- What kind of training do computer users need to have in order to minimize risks to the organization’s data? How to avoid social engineering scams.
Course TD2: How to Do Common Tasks Using
Common Office Software | April 14, 2010
Intended for: all staff
Many computer users are not aware of little-known techniques and features that dramatically reduce the time it takes to perform various tasks that are common in nonprofit organizations. This course covers three such tasks:
- How to do a mail-merge to produce labels and form letters, in Word
- How to produce a basic P&L statement in Excel
- Building and launching a basic website using Weebly
*For those registering for the entire course sequence, Brooklyn College requires a $30 certificate charge. You may take the course sequence without paying this charge but will not receive the Brooklyn College certificate |
